Originally conceived in 2006, Heart Soul Horses Helping Humans, Inc. founder, Cindy Hartzell, saw an opportunity to help others in need through their interaction with horses.

Simultaneously, she saw a chance to give purpose to the lives of those horses needing homes through the healing advantages horses brought to individuals or groups desiring a change, an alternative to what wasn’t working. Cindy saw two different species with needs and started the process to turn her vision into reality.

For over a decade, research, training, education, and experience molded the vision of horses and humans coming together for each other’s mutual benefit.

Then in early 2018, Cindy and her husband, along with a small group of likeminded, compassionate supporters, agreed it was time to turn the dream into actuality. Heart Soul Horses Helping Humans became a Nevada nonprofit and received its IRS 501(c) 3 tax exempt Determination Letter in the October 2018.

We Do It

  1. Advocating for a better life than simply being rounded up for auction, one of our projects is to acquire a few of these mustangs every year, bring through our gentling and training program, and then adopt them into qualified homes.

Helping us to promote wild horses and the heritage they have brought to America is our Ambassadorship curriculum. By rescuing some of these wild horses and bringing them through our programs, a few graduate into our program to help educate the public about America’s Wild Mustangs.

2. Handsome Harry is our first Wild Mustang Ambassador, who currently attends public events, parades, city celebrations, kids’ safety awareness events, and youth organization informative assemblies.

Allowing individuals to personally experience a Mustang, whether they touch the soft fur around our Ambassador’s muzzle, or feel the gentle lips while feeding an apple treat nibbled from their hands, everyone who attends is able to see, feel, smell and learn about a part of America’s legacy.

3. Our third program bestows learning opportunities for children and adults through their interaction with horses; the horses we have rescued. Horses are honest teachers with an uncanny ability to mirror human body language and behavior.

Those individuals, groups, and organizations that participate in our sponsored or facilitated equine assisted activities can advance leadership skills, exam belief systems, enhance life skills, encourage creative thinking, and expand their knowledge and teamwork capabilities relationships. This third component involving the human to horse interaction is a key concept behind Heart Soul Horses Helping Humans’s mission.

One of our goals is that these programs will nurture those who partake in our sessions to achieve a greater sense of responsibility and willingness to stand and be accountable.

The exercises can provide powerful metaphors for life experiences with horses being a vital component for achieving this enlightenment. Additionally, our observation has been that horses actually enjoy their participation in these exercises and it certainly beats going to auction or worse.
